These words run through my mind if I think about Venice :

Gondola's , bridges, tourists, masks and delicious food.

Back in the day the masks served as an important social purpose of keeping every citizen on an equal playing field. The morale of people was maintained through the use of masks. (People were able to conceal their identity) But nowadays the masks are used for festive purposes.
Most of the masks in Venice are handmade, but some might also be made in china. They have a PRC (People's Republic of China) stamp if it is not made in Italy.
